1. Who We Are

VoiceTranslate.io is an AI-powered translation service operated at voicetranslate.io, also distributed as the "Voice Translate" app on Google Play. For any privacy-related questions, contact us at [email protected].

2. What We Collect

Signing in is required to use the service. When you sign in with Google, and as you use the app, we collect and store:

• Account info — your name and email address from Google Sign-In, and your country (derived automatically from your network connection, not GPS/precise location).
• Translation history — text you translate, and its translation, are stored against your account so your history is available and syncs across your devices. You can clear this at any time in the app.
• App settings — preferences like theme, speech speed, and voice gender, synced to your account across devices.
• Group Session data — messages you send in a Group Session are stored temporarily (6-hour expiry) to enable the shared session.
• Usage data — counters used to enforce plan limits and prevent abuse.
• Technical data — IP address, browser type, device type and general region. Used for security, abuse prevention and aggregate analytics.
• Payment data — if you subscribe to Pro, payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details — we only receive your subscription status back from Stripe.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To create and maintain your account, and let you sign in across devices
• To perform and return the translations you request
• To sync your translation history and settings across your devices
• To enforce plan limits and prevent abuse
• To detect and prevent automated scraping or abuse
• To understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the service
• To process Pro subscription payments via Stripe

We do not use your data for advertising targeting, sell it to third parties, or use it to train AI models.

4. Local Storage & Cookies

VoiceTranslate.io also caches some data locally on your device using localStorage, for offline access and speed — this mirrors the account data described in Section 2, which is the authoritative copy stored on our servers once you're signed in:

• A local cache of your translation history
• Your language preferences
• Your session token, used to authenticate you without signing in again
• PWA install prompt dismissal

You can clear this local cache at any time by clearing your browser's site data; it will re-sync from your account next time you sign in.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Anthropic (Claude) — powers our translation and image-reading engine. Text and images you submit are sent to Anthropic's API to generate a translation. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
• Google Sign-In — used to authenticate your account. Google shares your name and email with us when you sign in. See Google's privacy policy.
• Stripe — handles Pro subscription payments. See Stripe's privacy policy.
• Google AdSense — serves ads to Monthly Pro accounts (Yearly Pro is ad-free). Google may use cookies for ad personalisation. See Google's privacy policy.
• Resend — sends transactional email (e.g. free-access codes, developer console sign-in links). See Resend's privacy policy.
• Railway — our hosting provider, and where your account data is stored. Server logs are retained for up to 30 days.
• Cloudflare — provides DNS and DDoS protection. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

6. Voice & Camera Data

When you use voice translation, your microphone input is processed locally by your browser's Web Speech API (controlled by Google or Apple, depending on your browser) and/or sent to our translation API. We do not store raw audio recordings.

When you use camera or image translation, the image is sent to our server for OCR and translation processing and is deleted immediately after the response is returned. We do not store or index your images.

7. Data Retention

• Account data (name, email, country, settings): retained until you request account deletion
• Translation history: retained until you clear it in-app or request account deletion
• Group Session messages: retained for 6 hours, then automatically expired
• Anonymous usage counters: reset daily
• Server logs (IP, user agent): up to 30 days
• Local device storage: stored in your browser/device until you clear it
• Stripe billing records: retained by Stripe per its own legal obligations, independent of account deletion

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under GDPR, CCPA or other privacy laws, including:

• The right to access data we hold about you
• The right to request deletion of your data — see our account deletion instructions
• The right to opt out of personalised advertising
• The right to data portability

9. Children's Privacy

VoiceTranslate.io is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
